On January 30, 2026, Abir AISSA, a PhD candidate at Isep, successfully defended her thesis entitled “High-Resolution Retinal Vascular Imaging Analysis.”
This research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Florence ROSSANT, professor at Isep, and Prof. Michel PAQUES, from the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology Hospital, with the guidance of Hélène URIEN, associate professor and researcher at Isep.
The defense took place at Isep, on the Issy-les-Moulineaux campus, before a panel of experts and an attentive audience, marking the culmination of several years of research dedicated to the advanced analysis of retinal images.
Innovative research on retinal imaging
This thesis proposes innovative approaches to improve the analysis of retinal vascular images using Adaptive Optics (AO) imaging.
This technology makes it possible to obtain very high-resolution retinal images and to identify vascular biomarkers associated with various systemic diseases.
The research carried out as part of this work aims to develop deep learning methods capable of automating the analysis of these images and facilitating the reliable extraction of biomarkers useful for clinical research, thereby opening new perspectives for the study of pathologies related to the vascular system.
Major advances in automated medical image analysis
A thesis serving health and innovation
This thesis defense by Abir AISSA at Isep fully illustrates the school’s commitment to scientific research with strong societal impact. By combining artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and clinical research, this work reflects Isep’s ambition to develop innovative technologies that serve health and medical progress.
Through its research activities and collaborations with hospital and academic partners, Isep actively contributes to the development of scientific and technological solutions capable of addressing the major challenges facing our society.
Isep extends its congratulations to Abir AISSA for the quality of her research and wishes her every success in the continuation of her scientific career.
