LumiSense: an intelligent lighting system for Smart Cities

After more than a year of preparation, Xun ZHANG, a researcher and lecturer at Isep, was awarded a Gold Medal for his innovative project LumiSense at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2026. This distinction represents international recognition for innovation at Isep.

LumiSense is a full-spectrum adaptive lighting system designed with a human-centered approach for Smart City applications. Developed jointly by Isep, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, and Xuyu Optoelectronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd, the project contributes to the development of intelligent, healthy, and adaptive lighting solutions for the cities of the future.

The project is based on an innovative approach to smart lighting, integrating physiological, behavioral, and environmental data in real time. Thanks to this adaptive system, LumiSense continuously adjusts lighting parameters to better meet users’ needs. Initial tests conducted with volunteers have shown encouraging results, with a significant improvement in perceived visual comfort for a large majority of participants.

This innovation perfectly illustrates Isep’s commitment to research focused on ethics, impact, and human-centered innovation, in line with its Humanware vision.
