Digital Infrastructures: An Isep PhD for Optimized Resource Management

22 July 2025

In the face of exponentially growing digital demands, how can providers combine performance, cost control, and data sovereignty? A PhD thesis defended at Isep offers innovative solutions that blend intelligent auction mechanisms with decentralized cooperation. Spotlight on a promising research project that challenges traditional infrastructure management models.

A Strategic Challenge for the Future of Digital Technology

How can we optimize digital infrastructures while ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and quality of service? This is the question addressed in the PhD thesis of Muhammad Fahimullah, a doctoral researcher at the LISITE laboratory of Isep, defended on July 4, 2025.

Titled “Cost-Aware Resource Management for Infrastructure Providers”, the thesis was supervised by Professor Maria Trocan (Isep). It forms part of the school’s broader research efforts on intelligent management of digital resources.

Two Innovative Approaches for Infrastructure Providers

Today’s digital infrastructures face a dual challenge: delivering reliable services while keeping costs under control. To tackle this, Muhammad Fahimullah developed two complementary solutions:

  • A non-cooperative auction mechanism: this system enables efficient resource allocation (computing, storage, communication) based on the priorities and capabilities of each provider.

  • A decentralized cooperation protocol: by promoting collaboration among actors while preserving confidentiality, this protocol ensures both performance and fairness.

These innovations open up concrete possibilities for improving network operations, reducing operational costs, and enhancing the agility of infrastructure providers.
