4th Edition of the Scientific Days: A Day of Research and Innovation at Isep

18 July 2025

On June 19, 2025, Isep hosted the 4th edition of the Scientific Days, an event organized by the school’s IEEE Student Branch. It was a day filled with scientific discovery, dedicated to research, exchange, and innovation.

A Platform for Showcasing Student Research

Organized annually by Isep’s IEEE Student Branch, the Scientific Day aims to promote research carried out by young scientists, PhD candidates, engineers, and students. For this 4th edition, Isep brought together speakers from across Europe to explore cutting-edge topics in science and technology.

A Rich and Diverse Program

Throughout the day, participants attended talks and presentations on topics at the forefront of scientific research, including game theory, explainable artificial intelligence, medical imaging, meta-learning, natural language processing, and biomedical electronics.

Two keynote speeches highlighted the event’s major moments:

  • Professor Désiré Sidibé (University of Évry – Paris-Saclay): Multimodal Computer Vision for Complex Scenes Understanding

  • Professor Gabriel Semanišin (Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, Košice): On Selected Aspects of Communication in Networks

Showcasing Young Researchers

The event also highlighted the work of young researchers through several presentations by PhD students:

  • Syed Nouman Hasany (University of Rouen) on concept learning using deep neural networks

  • Seoyoung Oh (Isep / Sorbonne University) on MRI segmentation applied to ALS

  • Xia Han (Isep) on embedded systems for pathological signal detection

  • Roua Jaafar (Isep / University of Sousse) on histological image segmentation using the SBC-UNet3+ model

Two poster sessions offered participants the opportunity to engage in discussions around innovative projects, fostering a friendly and collaborative atmospher.

A Focus on Engagement and Diversity

A key moment of the day was the Women in Engineering session, led by Emna Amri, Chair of IEEE R8 WiE and IEEE France Young Professionals. It provided an opportunity to raise awareness about the role of women in scientific careers and to promote greater diversity in technical fields.

Three Awards to Celebrate Excellence

At the end of the day, three awards were presented to recognize the quality of the contributions:

  • Best Presentation: Seoyoung Oh

  • Best Poster – PhD Students: Ife Olekelan Ebo

  • Best Poster – Engineering Students: Zhongyuan Wu, Arpitha Chemmala Sankarankutty, and Nandana Ramadas

These distinctions highlight the commitment of young researchers and their valuable contribution to advancing scientific knowledge.

A Unifying and Inspiring Event

The day concluded with a closing ceremony and a friendly networking cocktail, encouraging exchanges between students, researchers, and faculty members. This 4th edition confirms the growing success of the Scientific Days and Isep’s ongoing commitment to research and innovation.
