Title: Universal base station for biomedical applications
Duration: 3 months
Description: Medical implant systems today use a host of radio technologies to communicate between implant/explant and the reader/controller: RFID, MICS, UWB, ISM, HBC, ... These technologies are defined by the IEEE 802.15.6 group on Body Area Networks. Next-generation biomedical systems are likely to contain a host of heterogenous sensors communicating their data to the controller. This project aims is a feasibility study to determine a system-level architecture for a 'universal' base station for biomedical communications (a reader/collector capable of receiving data through different radio interfaces).
Keywords: Biomedical applications, Body-area networks, Cognitive radio, Radiofrequency systems.
Techical skills required: Understanding of wireless communications fundamentals, Transceiver architecture.
